Fake Vs Genuine Argan Oil
How can we detect fake vs. genuine pure 100% Argan oil?
1. Country of Production.
Argan Oil is produced only in Morocco and in small quantity in comparison to other oils. Many sellers especially from other countries claim to offer Argan Oil at very competitive prices and in any quantity you desire. Those aren’t genuine sellers of Argan Oil, they are actually scammers. The cost of Argan oil outside Morocco should be double or at least higher due to high cost of shipping and other fees.
2. The scent.
Cosmetic Argan oil has an aroma nutty smell. Strong-smelling Argan Oil that smells awful or rancid should obviously be avoided because it came from Argan shells that might have passed through the digested system of goats and no one wants to put that on their face or skin.Argan Oil that has no smells is highly suspicious, too. It could be entirely fake, or at least diluted. Many sellers buy seed from non trusted sources which most of the times come from Argan nuts that were produced from Argan shells that were digested by goats. These types of Argan nuts when it pressed, it produces Argan Oil that has an awful smell of goats and in order to get rid of the smell they use deodorization process to remove it and at the end remove even the nice aroma nutty smell and many beneficial ingredients. At Nadifi Argan, we don’t buy Argan seed, we buy the whole Argan fruits and let it dry in the blazing sun, and then with the help of women in Berber villagers, we remove the cover and crack the shells to get the best Argan nuts.
3. Argan Oil and its color.
Cosmetic Argan Oil should be smooth and silky, golden to yellow looking and fast absorbed into your skin. If the oil looks real clear, it could either be well filtered or fake.
4. The Ingredients.
Pure Agan Oil should say only pure Argan Oil. Many well known brands import Argan Oil from Morocco using third party country because they aren’t allowed to import it directly due to non diplomatic relation with Morocco and mix it with other ingredients, then selling it at outrageous prices to consumers in western countries. Our Pure Nadifi Argan Oil can do better than diluted ones and cheaper because you will be importing it directly from Morocco.
5. The price.
Argan oil is the most expensive oil in the world, don’t expect to import cheap Chinese Argan Oil, it’s produced only in Morocco and Chinese buy from us. The prices go up and down depending on the harvest which can be affected by the rain and the demand is always higher.
6. Argan Sellers.
Argan seller should have registered company, licensed to export, have certifications of the oil. At Nadifi Argan Oil, we are registered company, licensed to export Argan Oil by The ministry of Agriculture, certified by ECO CERT and USDA, we also offer MSDS safety sheet.
7. Warning before you buy Argan Oil.
Never buy Argan oil from street venders or strangers in Morocco. Always buy from well know venders. Never buy Cheap or discounted Argan Oil. Argan Oil cost at less in bulk $95 per liter. At Nadifi Argan Oil, we are real busy supplying our repeated clients and we never bargain or offer discount because we don’t cut corners.Make sure your seller has an ECOCERT or USDA, has a lab analysis of the oil or MSDS safety sheet, registered by The Ministry of Agriculture and licensed to export Argan Oil.
8. The sediment.
Hand produced Argan oil should have tiny sediment at the bottom of the containers or bottles, this type of oil is being replaced by cold pressed Argan Oil using modern machines. Handmade Argan Oil is processed using water. Moroccan Authority ban the export of handmade Argan Oil because it’s diluted with water, doesn’t pass the lab analysis and expires only after 6 months while machine cold pressed can last up to 24 months according to FDA. It can have no deposited sediment if it’s well filtered. The deposited sediment depends on whether the oil is filtered or not and how correctly filtered.
